Drew | McCallum Legal Consultations
Legal Consultations
At Drew & McCallum, we make high quality legal counsel and advocacy affordable by utilizing a number of strategies. The firm’s process for legal consultations is one of those many strategies. Our typical consultation process follows these steps:
Step 1 - Free Initial Telephone Consultation
We invite you to make your initial contact with our office via phone or the firm’s online consultation scheduling. We offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation with one of our attorneys. During this call, the attorney will disucss with you the basic facts of your matter and answer some general questions. At the conclusion of the call, if our firm can assist you further we will discuss the next appropriate steps given your needs.
Step 2 - Extended Consultation/Strategy Meeting (as needed or requested)
Sometimes your legal issues and questions are more involved and need to be discussed and developed more thoroughly. In those cases, you and the attorney will schedule an extended consultation or strategy meeting to discuss in more detail the specifics of your matter, your needs, your goals, and the various legal options available to meet those goals. Strategy meetings are also used when the attorney must review lengthy or multiple documents in order to answer your legal questions. During the meeting, both legal and practical options will be analyzed and discussed. These meetings are usually most productive when held in the office, but conference calls can be arranged and utilized efficiently.
Step 3 - Engagement
If the firm is able to assist you with your matter and you wish to engage the firm’s services, the attorney will discuss the fee structures available based on the scope of work you need. The firm likes to work on a fixed-fee basis when possible, and we continue to offer the traditional retainer/hourly fee structure for those clients who prefer it. Payment plans may also be available. Ask your attorney for more information.

Frequently asked questions
about consultations and fees
Our 30-minute telephone consultations are free, and many of the firm’s existing clients had all of their initial questions answered during the free consultation.
If you ask us to schedule an extended office consultation or if you want us to develop and explore strategy options before you hire the firm, those services are available. Fees for an extended consultation, a strategy meeting (telephonically or with an office meeting), and meetings that involve reviewing minor documents typically range between $250-$550. In those situations, the exact meeting fee is set based upon the work you need us to perform in order to address your legal questions. You will be provided and agree to the fee before the strategy meeting is scheduled.
- review any documents you provide about your case;
- discuss your case with you;
- provide you with answers to your questions; and
- provide you counsel, options, and strategies based upon the information you provide.
Knowledge is power, and we provide you with as much knowledge about your case as we can. It is our goal to help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your case, understand the other side’s perspective and motivations, evaluate the risks of your case, and use this information to develop a case strategy and provide you the advice and information you need to make sound decisions.
If during the course of the strategy meeting we can offer practical, self-help options for your situation, we will also discuss those in detail.
Initial telephone consultations are up to 30-minutes in length, and strategy meetings are typically an hour to an hour and a half. Consultations and strategy meetings are not strictly timed, though, so that we can give each meeting the time and attention it requires.
We give each and every client the time they need to discuss their case and get answers to their questions. We want you to leave our offices confident that we have discussed your case as fully as possible in our initial meetings, confident you have a better understanding of your case, and confident you have wisely invested your time and resources.
